attempts to suspsend/resume, 2 of them failed. One was pretty much a
stock "boot, open firefox, suspend", and it did not come out of suspend.
The other left the moon flashing on the way into suspend.

I can confirm that XDMCP is working on debian squeeze.
Stranger than that is a box I have running Lucid, which does work with XDMCP
although this is declared broken for Lucid.

And it has been around at least from Jauntys 2.6.28 kernel.
This softreset failure occurs every now and then, at irregular intervals.

This is an attempt to re-open bug Bug #544527, which was closed with "Fix
Committed". As stated in comment comments #2 ff
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/544527/comments/2), the
fix in question only fixed the native ioctl handling. "compat" ioctl hand
correction: after I removed and reinstalled gnome-screensaver to test
things, X blanking timeout now remains 600s, despite gnome-screensaver
is started with session, and configured to be off.
also: I can not find gnome-screensaver startup setting in gnome-session-
properties. Does it start somehow
We probably do need the private bit set on ubiquity logs in general.
It's not entirely unusual for them to end up containing user passwords,
either due to a bug or because ubiquity is running in debug mode.

Yes, it's deliberate that we use the IEC prefix here:
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnitsPolicy (although this actually predates that
policy being written up for Ubuntu). The reason is that disks are
typically advertised in decimal units, whether we like it or not, and on
balance it causes more confusion
