Ah, did not actually check for it but apparently there is a new driver
hpsa which is implemented as a scsi driver and is claimed to be the way
to go for newer smart arrays. The docs say that cciss is a block driver
that is used for disks and tapes which seemed to give people headaches.

@ingo: I suspect it's something like that, yeah. I've found that logging
out of my desktop (KDE), switching to a terminal, logging in, syncing
and rebooting results in far fewer cleanups on reboot (if any, not
really sure).

Just ran into it myself installing on an Acer Travelmate 2310. Obnoxious
bug...
Workaround:
Applications -> Accessories > Terminal
Run command:
sudo killall ubiquity
In case you had some weird layout selected and for this reason you
cannot write this command, copy paste it... (Or go to System ->
