My wrong: natty's kernel randomly hangs on boot on my hardware, whether patched
or not.
But: the patched kernel does solve this bug for me. Still getting the dmesg
error, though the interrupt is 0x0008 instead of 0x0003. Should I file
another bug report ?

The calculations that set vm.min_free_kbytes are too parsimonious. This
leads to log messages that start with the text:
fooprog: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x4020
and go on for dozens of lines.
By doubling the value set in vm.min_free_kbytes I was able to squelch
those messages.

There is no reason to purge and reinstall apparmor. All you need to do is
disable the profile by doing:
$ sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox /etc/apparmor.d/disable
$ sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox # or simply reboot
@all,
The firefox profile is opt-in,

I decided to upgrade my current 10.04LTS to 10.10. The upgrade went fairly well
and is currently running. No issues to report.
While trhis solves my 10.04LTS issues, it seems other have similar
problems. The upgrade seems to be a good solution.
