Could you try with gnome-alsamixer please.
This for the gnome desktop, e.g. Ubuntu
Open a terminal and install with 'sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer'
Then to run 'gnone-alsamixer'
When Gnome ALSA Mixer window appears go to EditSound Card Properties and check
that the appropriate functions
