Sorry it is not closed. Got the same problem after using update-grub.
Problem is hard to fixed and totally erratic
Computer just keep rebooting not showing the first grub menu for os
selection.
After many crash I changed the default destination for the output file
as generated by update-grub
Trying to follow the discussion for this bug -- I am curious why the
acer-wmi driver does not load at all on this Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. I
saw this hardware listed as being supported somewhere, but when trying
to insmod it isn't even found.

Ok. So, for a work around I think we can start compiz with the
vblank_mode=0 environment set and vsync disabled; this will stop compiz
being blocked waiting on vsync, but in return allow some tearing to

A few more tests, working on my Dell Inspiron 1501 now.
Basically the problem continues. I tried using gftp and the system hung
after transferring about 1-2Gb of files.
Thinking it might be a window manager thing, I used alt-F2 to get a

Installation fails on my machine. It's a brand new Samsung Series 9,
NP900X3A-A02US.
I wiped the disk and set up the following partitions:
sda1 - 15360mb ext4 /
sda2 - 15360mb unused
sda3 - 6144mb swap
sda4 - [remaining, 97gb iirc] ext4 /home
I don't have as good of logs from test as I used to. Hopefully as we
move to fully automated nightly test we'll have even better logs of such
things.
For the moment, I'll let this time-out to incomplete, but I really don't
suspect its fixed. As I've stated elsewhere, I really think its a
hypervi

Ahem. I've traced this locally and it doesn't *seem* to be a compiz
problem. Compiz is waiting for the next frame, and X is waiting for the
kernel to tell it the next frame has happened.
Adding a kernel task, as it looks like that's where the problem lies.
