Aha! Ignore #19. I just did a proper installation (creating debs rather
than just running cmake directly) and the dash icons all work properly
too! I now have a beautiful unity-2d interface on my G5 and am very
happy. The underlying bug is really in Qt4, but I guess that's not going
to get fixed.
Now I have upgraded to natty and still can't enable 3d acceleration, I

Sorry guys, it seems to me I blamed the wrong program: I think it must
have something to do with the Ubuntu language package since I have the
very same problem in Firefox, and even TexWorks (as far as spell
checking is concerned).

The same thing on my machine ( Nvidia GTS 450 ). Compiz is slow.
Glxgears reports 6000-7000 FPS running very slow visually. Vsync
switching doesn't help.
