Turns out that I'm still able to reproduce the bug. However, I'm not
able to get a core dump (or crash report) from the application. Just
running OOo causes the internal SIGSEGV/SIGABRT handler to be called,

I've had this problem since at least 10.04, it continues with latest
version of 11.04. It's not specific to Firefox, I've got it in Chromium
as well. I've seen other threads mention that Chrome packages its own

A few days ago, after a software upgrade, my system reported that it
couldn't run Unity and fell back to GL-less Classic.
(If I killall metacity and run compiz, it runs fine, and Unity starts up
with many weird problems, but the graphics performance
any news on this? i ended up disabling automatic updates on my laptop
... which is definitely not be best solution

after a few secounds my computer was running out of memory (2GB) and also

Same problem on Thinkpad R400 @ 11.04. Upgrading to kernel 2.6.39 did
not resolve the problem.
Kworker threads (4 of them) suddenly consume all CPU resources.
Sometimes the system recovers, sometimes it blocks for > 5 minutes, i.e.
until I flip the switch.
This happens on an fresh, out-of the box

I've tried Chad Billman's suggestion from post #4, using the pre 2.6.34
driver (2.6.0006.0321.2011) for my 2.6.38 natty kernel, and I'm still
getting full system lock-ups.
They do seem less frequent than with the stock driver included with my
kernel, but this might just be my imagination.
