A recent update upgraded my -lowlatency kernel to 3.0.0-7. This resulted
in dkms not being able to compile nvidia-current. The workaround shown
at http://nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2463992 made it work
again.

Did that happen as you unplugged a USB CDROM drive or USB flash drive
(if a flash drive then a Sandisk Cruiser?)
There is a known Kernel bug with USB CDROM unplug (although this kernel
is a 2.6.32 which I thought was a bit old for that bug).

Not sure if this should be submitted to the kernel or lirc. What
changed was the kernel, what I modified to fix the issue was lirc.
I've been using the lirc for years with success. A recent update broke it.

That shows that the greater part of your memory usage is anonymous
pages, which will generally either be application usage or tmpfs
filesystems. Please run the following commands and provide the output:
sudo apt-get install smem # if not already installed
smem
df -ah -t tmpfs
smem gives
Following up after upgrading to Midori 0.4.0: The menu is still not
displayed in indicator-appmenu.
The menubar is hidden by default and right-clicking on the menu button
and checking menubar shows the menubar IN midori and not in the
indicator-appmenu.

Because of the continuing mem issues with gl enabled cairo and nvidia drivers,
on a 1GB install I use the current 11.10 cairo source re-built without gl
support.
In this install there are no closing issues with synaptic, gnome-terminal ect.
with the new nvidia drivers.
