This is very irritating.
In the time that this discussion already goes on, the position-freedom-
feature could already have been implemented. twice.
even if it just would be a very sable hack, just doable for highly
experienced 1337 users.
that's not the ubuntu style of listening-to-their-users
I have applied the patch and after resolving issues with permissions on
the device gpsbabel was communicating with this seems to work. As I
don't have any tracks on my GPS though I am not certain, but this
certainly doesn't make the situation worse.

As far as I know, Empathy's auto-away status is supposed to work like
this: when I leave my computer, GNOME detects the idle time of 10
minutes (or whatever), blanks the screen, and puts Empathy in "away"
status. In previous versions, Empathy would come back to "available"

start an X session, however compiz fails to load. Can only get a working
session by reverting to Nouveau driver.

I had run "compiz --debug --replace ccp > windowstacking.log 2>&1" from
a gnome-terminal right after logging in.
