When the pop up comes do not click on the Cancel or OK button. Just use the
close button on the window title bar (the cross button in red) to close the pop

Enabling "Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint" makes
moving windows better for me, too - it stops unsightly tearing occurring
around the window border during the move.
I've now got the 3d-performance degradation bug persistently, ie

however it doesn't seem over
Enabling "Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint" has made
a world of difference to me. It works well without my PPA, but works
even better (even smoother) with my PPA.

I suggest a good workaround for this bug, and also bug 880707, is to enable:
"Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint"
in the Workarounds section of ccsm. You might also need to tick "Don't wait for
video sync".
Now for the first time in a long time I have a tear-free sandybridge
