I confirm that I can see this bug also when using Catalyst (fglrx)
drivers (both the version available in Oneiric and later versions
avaiable from AMD's website).
In my case the issue is exacerbated by the number of active X clients.

is after which the problem was first sighted, I am not sure if its
specific to nouvea as I am certain i saw it on a non-nvidia system
I believe that ibus is the package at fault. It probably gets patched
by Ubuntu Maintainers to be named main.py. (Probably to make it
compatible with Unity)
Unfortunately main.py is too generic and probably not the best choice
for it's name
