using a new console (CTL-ALT-F1) so you can see what you are typing (vs
CTL-ALT-T method)
My specific steps to resolve were as follows
a) Login with [username] and get *stuck* on blank screen
b) CTL-ALT-F1
c) Logged in as
unity --reset did it for me. As #21 and #28 are pointing out, I too am
missing the mouse hover glow on launcher icons.

I made instalation of gnome 2 (sudo apt-get install gnome-session-
fallback) And this bug does not work there (3 days without errors). I
think the problem in new Unity.

I can confirm also that it's nothing to do with lubuntu software center,
that seems to be having a bug altogether unrealated. PCManFm seems to
close by itself on background processes after boot. Upon opening pcmanfm
later for file viewing it lasted approx two minutes before dying.

Bug is still there on todays daily build of 12.04. Attached foto is last
what I see on the screen, after that nothing will happen for hours.
