ok. there is a workaround, to get unity 3d running.
use the open source drivers nouveau. uninstall all nvidia drivers. install
nouveau firmware from synaptic.
then sudo gedit /etc/environment
and add this line: UNITY_FORCE_START=1
save, reboot and you should be able to log into unity 3d .

1.5 weeks ago I upgraded Ubuntu through Update Mgr and now firefox continually
crashes citing GLX problems (GLXtest process failed (exited with status 1): GLX
version older than the required 1.3). I installed Konkeror to research a fix
and it crashes. All other programs
