One workaround is using this command (as normal user)
udisks --mount /dev/fd0
to mount a floppy, then it can be safely detached via GUI (e.g. in
nautilus, right click the floppy icon...).
Once can create a .desktop file to run the command and dragdrop it onto
the unity launcher.

I reproduce the issue with any string I use. For example, if I search
libreoffice, LSC freezes after I type l, and the rest of the keyword
(ibreoffice) appears a few second later.
