refuses to open any file specified on the command line.

I tried the workaround, but ran into some problems: - in step 5, the command
apt-get -y reinstall was not recognised. The reinstall seems to be the wrong
code.

In case anyone is interested, I was able to workaround this problem. I
had to build kdiff3 from source after making a small change. YMMV, since
I have not done extensive testing, nor have I done any checks to see
what sort of side-effects my code change may have. Here's what I did:

Sorry, that was the wrong version, python3-all build dep was added in

I encountered aother intresting networking problem that may be possibly
related ad thought it worth mentioning
I am on a network with 2 gateways . by default the IP ending in .1 is
issued by DHCP , however with a manual conbfiguratiopn we can switch to
the .2 gateway.
Doing this in Mint 13
I was referring to Chrome 22.x from the stable channel. Old Chrome
versions are rare since they're only distributed by Google and are
automatically updated.
