The very first time i had encountered that problem was when I installed
12.10 with 3.5 kernel. There was no issue with 12.04 and prior versions
but I cannot remember what kernel version this distribution was using.
Thought it was 3.2 kernel. Would try that and tell you the results.

I don't have any previous versions of Ubuntu installed so I don't know
if this issue is long-standing.
Apparently having 0x33 be the default started around kernel version
2.6.26 (CONFIG_CORE_DUMP_DEFAULT_ELF_HEADERS=y).
Fedora defaults to 0x33. I haven't tested any other distributions.

I'm suffering from the same bug. First nslookup is w/o VPN, name
resolution works just fine. Once I'm connected to vpn clemson.edu names
resolve but other domains do not resolve. I did a second set of
nslookups at the end of this to show the last.

OK, I now installed subversion, cloned a repo and tried the add-menuitem
and this is what I get (see screenshot). Note that I'm using Thunar
1.6.1, but I'm not sure that makes a difference as the vcs-plugin is
version 0.1.4-1build1 (which is what is shipped with Quantal, if I'm not
mistkaen).

Can you see if the latest Raring kernel still exhibits this bug if
wireless N is disabled? Ths can be done by setting:
options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
