here is the diff that need to be applied to the /etc/init.d/openvpn to start
the daemon correctly.

I am also affected by this bug. Every time I start a USB web cam
Kaffiene stops with a message box Read error from.
Press the button and it can be restarted, with both working .
I have been putting up for it for a good while, possibly since Kubuntu
11.04. Currently on 12.10 normal release.
