I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.2 32bit and the webcam [0x0ac8 0xc002] of my
Sony VGN-FE21M laptop gives green/garbled/black output when trying to
use it in cheese, xawtv, vlc or skype. The suggested solutions in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam/Troubleshooting don't work.

passwd does change the eCryptfs mount passphrase when passwd is ran by
normal users. The old password is required to do this operation and
passwd can successfully rewrap the mount passphrase with the new
password.

/etc/init.d/virtualbox is present and if run as suggested does make
VirtualBox run correctly.

Based on bit more grepping, I think I have part of the answer, at the
same time another part still seems to be a potential issue !!! However
please do correct my understanding, even if I am fully wrong also.
a) I notice that efivars.c has a pstore logic and using noefi will
