One thing to suggest is from install media when kernel is loaded it uses
lz compression, but when installed in HDD it uses gz compression, which

I had exactly the same problem constantly since several years with
different Ubuntu versions and different nvidia drivers.
After adding agp=off to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in the grub
config the strange black dots problem is completely gone! :-)

On a Toshiba Satellite S855 with Windows 8 preinstalled and Secure boot

After installing Ubuntu 12.10 + latest sputnik kernel (3.5.0.27), the
touchscreen behavior still is faulty.
Multitouch gestures are completely ignored and Nautilus does not work, unless
