blacklisted the loading of all framebuffer drivers in the kernel,

Whenever I press the Scan button, the operation fails for the first few times
with the message
Failed to scan
Unable to connect to scanner
with Close and Change Scanner buttons.
After about 2-6 attempts, the scanner just works without issues.

Seems to happen fairly randomly. Only started happening after the
upgrade to 13.04, otherwise it never happened in 12.04. It seems more
common after resuming from suspend or hibernate although it sometimes
just happens when the system is inactive for various amounts of time.
