a HP ProLiant box here running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and linux-
image-3.5.0-25-generic as well as the 3.2-series kernels.
For me the machine will run fine for about a day, then everything locks

Just updated to 13.04 and this bug was the first thing I tried to
replicate. I attempted to produce the bug in OpenShot, since that's
where I run into it the most, and everything has worked normally.

Some icons have disappeared from launcher bar and system settings. The links
exist, Cold reboot does not change situation.
Launcher bar missing icons are system settings plus five mounted drives.
Launchpad icon appears inserted just below blank system settings space and the
mounted drives.

Now Nautilus is completely borked in 13.04 we need a decent two pane
file-manager for Ubuntu, but this bug is nasty.

It has similarities to bug 318410. The upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04 was
not smooth. After restarting at the end of the process, the boot hung
with a black screen. I rebooted in failsafe mode and after enabling
networking I resumed in low graphics mode and was successful.
