Booting after hitting a key was with the quiet and splash options.
Also after hitting a key and changing the parameters to live-nosplash, I
got the desktop as well.

This is still an issue after such a long time! Can only accept invites
to local calendar and cut/paste to Google calendar will re-invite (aka
spam!) all attendees. Thunderbird 17.0.6, Lightning 1.9.1, Provider for
Google calendar 0.18, Ubuntu 13.04, 64 bits.

Just in case it might help someone else, here's a wrapup of the final
status for my issues.
Intent : migrate from Ubuntu Studio x64 10.10 to Ubuntu Studio x64
12.10 (both installed, on distinct HDDs)
System specs : Tyan s2915 (non-E) motherboard, Tyan BIOS v3.00, MCP55
Pro chipset, dual Opteron
I also noticed that the URLs for the scripts all lead to 404 errors
(page not found). Could you please advice what from what page do these
scripts come from? In addition, could you tell if you use any extensions
or addons in your browser? Thanks in advance.
