i think acpi may be crucial for laptops as of its description, but i have
desktop PC and it does not bother me too much.
its description also says that it is able to suspend, hibernate and resume the
computer, but suspending/resuming works just the same as before for me.

I've logged out and logged back in. Speakers are unmuted and 106 sound
card is selected for output.
Start up Clementine, and play an old mp3 file that was sampled at 44100
(that was cut from a CD) - song
I just noticed, that the icon is in fact not missing, but located right
next to the dash, under the menu bar (see the attached screenshot). The
icon works as expected from a tray icon.
