Just a quick update. I had a couple of days last week where I didn't
have this problem. However, I do have it this morning and I have
rebooted (actually shut down and booted) literally about 6 times and get
the problem each time. Am thinking of upgrading to 13.10.

Since I upgraded to 12.04 recently I've started to notice this problem.
Namely, indicator-datetime-service was still running at 100% CPU, and
was quickly restarted (with just highter PID) after killing its process.
However, I was puzzled why at the same time some geoclue- related
service also
I just tried this on my 13.10 install, the hotkey to switch didn't work,
but more than that, the lock screen listed 3 different layouts and none
of them seemed to be the layout I wanted. In my account, I only have 2
layouts.

Booting a ThinkPad T420s with discrete graphics enabled in the causes a
hang during the boot.
The hang happens somewhere during udev startup, I think.

I wanted to run Android Development Tools 64 bit on Kubuntu 13.10 amd64.
This requires a lot of 32 bit libs, since there are many 32 bit binaries
included.
Currently it crashs at specific points.
I believe the cause are some problems with the 32bit packages on ubuntu.
It is a different bug than the one mentioned in my previous comment. I
will address them separately.

Whenever I used to boot on ubuntu, my login screen was too dim, I

brightness with my keyboard.
I asked for a solution on Ubuntu IRC, and the user hitsujiTMO managed to
create me a temporary solution that worked
The keyboard is also not recognized when booted to runlevel 3.
