Just installed and tested precise. For whatever reason I couldn't
reproduce plasma-desktop crash with neither 4:4.8.1-0ubuntu4.6, nor

I am not sure if this is the same problem or not. I have a similar
issue. I opened a Bug #1296020 for ubuntu 14.04 trusty. This is critical
to me. I can NOT use gdm and gnome-shell at all because of this bug. gdm
failed to start because of this. gnome-shell shows a black (off) screen.
