I can confirm that 29c7787075c92ca8af353acd5301481e6f37082f applies
cleanly again the latest trusty tree (3.13.0-27.50), and does indeed fix

Hi Marc, and thank you for answering.
Being tired, annoyed and stupid precluded me from taking a screenshot,
but on the upside, Update Manager seemed to work just peachy today.
I wonder if what I saw might have been a rare code path that was meant
to be removed, or whatever else caused it, but

If you don't understand Ubuntu's
I see several kinds of memory leaks (one as reported above) right after
installing 14.04 on T400 w.4GB RAM:
1. top shows 1.1GB at startup,
2. It grows to 1.2GB in 8 hours witthout any user activity
3. Starting Firefox with one page (Google) increases it to 1.4GB
4. After 1.5 hours without any
I changed the VM interface from virtio to e1000 and then I do not get
this problem and the job finishes perfectly fine. Although e1000 may not
be the best solution but at least it doesnt break my setup.

I followed stgraber's excellent tutorials in
https://www.stgraber.org/2014/02/09/lxc-1-0-gui-in-containers/ and got a
container that has X11 and DRI and pulse access. It works really well!
But the odd thing is that chromium run from inside the container turns
out enormous

I followed the steps at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting
and found that the brightness keys are only detected with acpi_listen,
which apparently means this is a bug in the kernel (ubuntu-bug linux)
for not translating the ACPI event to an input event
I'm not going to be able to install that on the system as it is. Not
now anyway. Will update the ticket if I get a chance.
