I agree, being able to disable suspend when an external monitor is
connected make perfect sense (even if it's not the default behaviour).
I've installed gnome-tweak-tool and "Laptop lid, when closed, will
suspend even if there is an external monitor plugged in." is disabled,

Same problem for me too. Just got a new HDD and installed Ubuntu 14.04
(used to run Debian testing, controller used to autodetect and work
correctly when plugged in). Wouldn't recognise the controller, syslog

This change fixed the bug for me. Installed version: unity-control-
center 14.04.3+14.04.20140604-0ubuntu1
Test case:
1. Used unity-control-center to configure a user to log in without password.
User was added to the nopasswdlogin group and was able to log in without
password.

Won't be an issue once new version is on image, just for current users that
have compiz-plugins installed
(maybe for future upgraders?
If affected can be locally fixed with a force overright, ie.
- sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/compiz
Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) : I do not remember the first version
that was installed on this laptop (was it 11.04?), but I know that no
release of Ubuntu was ever capable of suspend/resume on it since at
least 2013-03.
