I had this issue on a Acer Aspire 5750G. Today I updated my system with
the latest NVIDIA driver 343 from the xorg-edgers repository. Because
Ubuntu would not let me login (black screen after entering password in
lightdm) after the update and command line switching did also not work I
I'm on 12.04.4 and a simple apt-get install qemu-kvm-spice gave me the
qemu-system-x86_64-spice which worked fine. I also got a black screen
after installing the guest tools, and the QNX driver, upon first boot in
QNX mode... but just gave it a few minutes to detect and install the

I've had this issue for as long as I can remember, and it's still
present in 14.04. I have apparently the same battery as the bug
reporter. I'm running on an Acer Aspire 5050-5554.
I don't know if it's due to changes in acpi since 2009 or because of a
different symptom, but my output is
P.S.: it looks like there was a similar issue in earlier versions of Ubuntu,
but a fix was released... I don't know if this issue is related:
