It is hard to reproduce, but here is what I just did that caused it:

I confirm this bug also affects Ivy Bridge. But though the

After debugging the plugin I couldn't find anything wrong with it; I
think it's actually the problem of unity8 - the following snippet of
Dash.qml ( the caluse for favorite scope) looks like the culprit:
if (scopeIndex = 0) {
// Is a favorite one
I am also using an Acer C720 Chromebook.
However, I have Ubuntu 14.10, kernel 3.17.1 installed.
The 'tpm_tis.force=1' trick did not work for me.
Still looking for a solution.

Tim, maybe a transitional usbip package could be pushed to utopic which
installs linux-tools-generic.
