I would agree with mterry, we should have two different modes for the dialer
when the device is locked. I can imagine that it would be then easier to make
changes/fixes according to the specific use case.

Perhaps a clue: after the upgrade, I was also finding my wifi was a
little flaky. Last week I disabled wifi and unloaded the ath5k drivers
and other related drivers. The system has been up 10 days now, which is
the longest uptime since this problem started.

I don't know... you installed the .run, not the deb, so purging it might
be not trivial.
remove the debian one and install the official one.

remove all kismet. Then reinstalled and the package version that
downloads shows the current version of kismet, but when I run kismet
--version I see an old version.

steps to reproduce:
1. call device
2. accept call
3. navigate away, e.g. dash, different app...
4. the indicator panel should be now green and say tap to return to call
5. tap the panel
actual result:
The panel expands 1/3 of the screen and then navigates back
