I am not sure if it's related, but another interesting fact: I left my
Ubuntu box switched on at my workplace, though I can access it via ssh
(and sshfs to mount my home from there). It was more than a week, not to

I just rebuilt my home server with new hardware, and installed the
latest Debian 8.2 fresh Friday night. Yesterday, a general protection

The problem can be fixed by manually disabling USB autosuspend for the
scanner by doing
echo -1 >/sys/bus/usb/devices/USB_ADDRESS_OF_SCANNER/power/autosuspend
as root.
I guess an udev rule has to be added for that.

I downloaded xenial-dexktop-amd64.iso dated 07-Jan-2016 08:56 and booted from
USB.
It took me directly to the desktop, so I didn't test on the login screen.
On the desktop, external mouse and touchscreen work as expected. The trackpad

I updated the BIOS to version 1.35, and this not fixed the problem.
The command "sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s

According to my test results both 3.14 (3.14.58) and 3.15 (3.15.10) are
good kernel branch. I think that problem is somewhere in 3.16 kernel
branch. With kernels 3.16rc1 and 3.16rc2 I can see only blinking cursor,
