The issue in 15.10 is a different problem, likely in pidgin 2.10.11
where each time a sound plays, it leaks a socket pair, eventually
running out of files. I'd guess its fixed in 2.10.12 with the commit
"Remove Gstreamer pipeline after playing a sound".

I was unable to get to XFCE and slim login manager, I was stuck on a black

When I finished the installation, the sound doesn't works.
I followed the Andy C instructions and it works. I didn't use the alsa_setup.sh
script.

Hmm... I don't know what "hash collision" means, but apparently there is
something wrong with your locale (which most likely explains why the
zh_TW.UTF-8 locale wasn't created successfully initially).
I would suggest that you regenerate all the locales with this command:
sudo locale-gen --purge
After downloading the ISO image one should verify
1) checksums
2) GPG signatures on those checksums
These are available from http://releases.ubuntu.com/

since upgrade. Hard crash, no output to logs, local console occasionally
shows a kernel panic ending with Fatal Exception in Interrupt, shutting
