always, sometimes I can change tty if I remove 'quiet' parameter of
grub). I tried to install Lubuntu on old computers (with no GPU nvidia):

As I've started reading this bug report, here's an account of what
happened (with a happy end ;-)
OK, so the local APIC timer is not working as I expected. Perhaps it's
not wired up to produce the timer interrupt as we expect.
I've disabled the Local APIC timer and lo and behold it works fine:

When I get the black screen I mentioned above, there is no way out of
it. I have to hold the power button until the computer turns off.

On my computer it seems like it is fixed but there it was no problem before.
But when I reported that bug I used vmware with EFI, but I don't think it
has secureboot, but I can test on vmware and see if it's working.

In a perfect world we'd get to the roots of every problem, but in
reality we don't have the time to keep debugging issues

I can confirm that the blank screen flickering is gone with
4.6.0-997-generic intel-drm-next.

Probably a bisect on drm-intel-nightly is less painful.
But it seems that we are indeed now duplicating the discussion and there is
