I'm experiencing almost all the above bugs by trying to install Linux on an
Asus ROG GL552VW.
I tested Ubuntu 16.04, Debian 8 and Mint 17.3.
The main issues are:
- Ubuntu 16.04: no backlight keys, cpu fan always at maximum speed
- Debian 8: no special keys at all, cpu fan always at maximum

Seeing thiis today in a MATE install (ISO date 20 April). UEFI install
with correct partitioning. Both third-party and updates optons were

i have nvme drive, I did the enablement using qemu vm (so can be tested
there). currenty i have nvme drive and it works fine. However, I have
installed it in the uefi mode. I do not believe nvme drives work in
"legacy" mode at all, because there is no bios support for them.

Ok, this is somehow extensions related. Starting with --safe-mode
results in a working version.
In my case I pinned it down to the firetray addon. Since it is

package linux-image-extra-4.2.0-25-generic 4.2.0-25.30 failed to
install/upgrade: package
I did wonder if it was a driver issue related to my processor, so that
or a kernel issue makes sense. Not sure how to confirm that though. In
the additional drivers thingy it says it is using a backport driver for
something that i assume is processor related. My understanding was that

So not a bug really, but still if you update your system it shouldn't be
left in a broken state without any additional info...
