mmm well virtualbox is not updated daily, so I presume the crash is due to some
other libraries installed that requires you to restart it to properly work.

I've the same system and the sound card. I've installed Ubuntu 16.04.
I am able to get audio from speakers and headphones but not when I insert a
HDMI cable connected to my TV. The Video output is perfectly fine though. I'm
using NVidia graphic driver(proprietary and tested version 361.42).

I am similarly affected by this issue, we have a large number of
Chromecasts on our network, v1 and v2 and whilst the previous version of
Chromium worked just fine with the plugin installed this new version is
broken in some regard.
google-chrome-stable 53.0.2785.101-1 package does work, however.
This update is still pending publishing in xenial-proposed:

Issue is not reproducible. No more conflicts at the moment.
It seemed to be caused be installing updates through the gui. Maybe some
questions were to be asked, but it did not do so, so it was stuck in between
the updates?
