I would chime in a bit on this too. 14.04 _did_ have such issues. In
fact, I had a physical box with static IP's (2 nics), if a cable was
unpligged, it would hang forever and also become inconsistent. I had
these discussions a year ago or so. Anyway, I had ot abandon ubuntu

- I found that the boot process would stall within the generated ramfs
- images on 16.04 when the rootfs existed within a thin pool with the
- actual error referencing a missing /usr/sbin/thin_check executable. I've
- attached my own initramfs hook script which pulls in
kernel 4.4.0-43-generic is working fine. Installed it today. Encryptfs
seems to be back to being fully operational.
So, I haven't tried 4.8.1 but it appears the bug was fixed before then.

there. It appears that encryptfs is partially broken and this is a
known bug. I can change into directories and open files. The only

I found that the boot process would stall within the generated ramfs
images on 16.04 when the rootfs existed within a thin pool with the
actual error referencing a missing /usr/sbin/thin_check executable. I've
attached my own initramfs hook script which pulls in all of the

Trackpad works flawlessly on my ASUS Zenbook UX32VD except for this one
issue. It makes it incredibly frustrating to use the laptop. Tested on
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS.

I had tried 'boot-repair' to no avail, although success was reported.
But I tried your solution twice by using dev/sda1 (the current efi FAT32
boot partition) and /dev/sda2 ( the main ext4 partition). Neither solved
the problem although there were no error messages only 'successful'
Wow, this is an unfortunate surprise after upgrading to 16.10. I cannot
do without Anki. How did you perform the downgrade, David?

I had tried the boot-repair option, to no avail.
But this time I made sure I had the latest version (I do) by completely
removing boot-repair and reinstalling, including repository, and tried
'advanced' option. 'Successful' but didn't solve the problem.
Then I tried default version
Tested 5.6.2-1ubuntu1.1 from Xenial proposed.
Can confirm that fixes the issue here.
