I believe you are referring to the 2.12.x branch of gnutls. This has
several issues relating to its TLS 1.2 support, and due to the ABI break
in 3.x releases, fixes related to TLS 1.2 never entered into that
branch. I'm preparing a final release for this branch, including fixes
for all known issues

the fix noted above did not resolve my problem.

I just updated LibreOffice a couple of minutes ago but, so far, no dice.
If you look at the attached image will see the problem exactly as
described.
I have Ubuntu MATE 16.10, LO 5.2.2.2, compilation ID 1:5.2.2-0ubuntu2.

What most likely happened here is that the 'cloud-config-url' parameter
(a url to the maas region controller) failed to be downloaded, and that
error is unfortunately just swallowed.
There isn't a good way to figure this out. A full console log would be

pm-utils does not write pm-suspend.log fil
Some data points about this:
- Name resolution always works fine after first boot
- When name resolution is failing, dnsmasq seems to have stop accepting
connections on UDP on 120.0.1.1 (TCP seems to work fine)
- I can reproduce the issue connecting to wifi at work - WPA2 enterprise wifi
network
Error still present in 4.8.0-26-generic
