I'm not sure exactly what systemd attempts to do which doesn't work in

ubuntu-installer/partman does not properly detect partitions on FBA
Public bug reported:
When booting up, a general protection fault occurs (see kern.log). This
happens when I'm booting from kernel version 4.4.0. It never occur when
I'm booting from 4.1.1. Furthermore, this problem does not always occur
on every boot up (from version 4.4.0). It is intermittent.

Rebooted, opened a user session with unity8, and it was staged mode.
The related issue is the desktop toggle does not work.
