things than GTK. Testing a native GTK-2 app (geeqie) doesn't seem to
exhibit the problem.

Confirmed. Seems I can make gnome-shell grow by about 1MB per second if
I move the mouse over the dock continuously, or scrub across the panel
menus continuously. That might not be the only problem but the rate of
growth is quite significant.

We use
Confirmed. But the problem is just Java failing to pay attention to the
theme correctly. It uses the right background colour, but not the right
font colours. It's still using a fixed font colour that works only on
lighter backgrounds. This is a bug in openjdk-8 (or netbeans itself, not
sure).

Michael - I'm able to test this, but I need to set up a fresh machine to
make sure I didn't bodge one of the install steps.
Just to be clear, the xenial-proposed version is 1.13.1 based, and the
earlier PPA version was 1.12.x based, so this is newer code than what I
had first tested.

However bug reports that describe multiple bugs are very difficult to
close since you're discussing different things and waiting for multiple
fixes. It's usually recommended to open one bug report per symptom.
