I wanted to hide users at the login screen by adding one line (HideUser...) to
the file /etc/sddm.conf:
[Users]
MaximumUid=65000
MinimumUid=1000
HideUsers=,
The problem is, that only the first user will be hidden, all following users
are still visible.

Ok, you should disable samba-ad-dc and enable the others. Like this:
sudo systemctl stop smbd.service nmbd.service winbind.service
samba-ad-dc.service
(the above one may indicate a failure since these services are probably already
stopped, but that's ok)

In case it helps, xinput identifies the trackpad "ImExPS/2 Generic
Explorer Mouse" but when resumes from suspension the malfunctioning
trackpad is identified as "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint". If I reload psmouse,
as suggested, it gets back to "ImExPS/2" and works properly

To be realistic I probably won't be testing this with different kernels.
It's happening on a production laptop which I need daily and is a bit
tricky to reproduce. Maybe someone else suffering from the issue can do
the tests.
More info: the bug doesn't happen on every boot. Suspend/resume cycles

pyclean is part of python-minimal...
Do you perhaps have some manual python installation that removed
/usr/bin/pyclean? Or are you running with a PATH that doesn't include /usr/bin
or something equivalently crazy?
Or at the very least, please check if you have /usr/bin/pyclean and it
works.

I'm ok with you not wanting all USB drives to be mounted read-only --
such is the default behavior of Ubuntu. But I and the company I work
