I haven't followed the complete discussion, but now that hugo 0.37.1-1
is available in Ubuntu bionic, I believe this is fixed. (Or possibly
superseded by bug 1754531 where the newer version was synced...)

testing was performed on a Celeron J1900:

this is some comment about the installation options (Tasks) offered at
the end of the server cd image's installation process. Please use the
option list from the PXE installer.
Reason:
For more than a decade I've been using the PXE installation process to

1754991. I haven't done a thorough regression test, but everything else

not solved the problem. Further analysis is for the "xenial-updates"

2. Select "Install Xubuntu" at the menu (NOT live desktop.)
3. Proceed through the installation as normal.

At the end of installation a black screen with white error messages is

Workaround: Use brasero instead of xfburn
(it is similar, I just needed to uncheck the option "Burn directly" otherwise
there was a problem with ejecting the disk)
