I'd concur and suggest that as so many people use openvpn for 'Private
Internet Access' that would be a far more appropriate out-of-the-box VPN
add-on to ship.
That obviously has implications because it would require adding openvpn
to the seed.
PPTP is, I think, a hold over from the dial-up ISP d
actually, simply comment out the line that says Option "PrimaryGPU"
"yes" in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia-drm-outputclass-ubuntu.conf,
and leave the file where it is.

I can confirm the suspicion for this issue to relate to Meltdown/Spectre
patching.
Running an Ubuntu 16.04 desktop in a virtual machine (VMware Workstation
12.5.9) on top of Windows 7.
The hardware is a Dell T1700 with an i7-4770, and it seems the issue arose
after BIOS and Microcode update.

manager and the application center of Ubuntu. Then rebooted, and installed it

Debian didn't contact us anything about the packages, I guess they just
didn't notice or something. The maintainer of our Krita Lime repository
(Alexey Samoilov) also maintains his own repositories for Debian. I
guess they can be reused for official Debian packages:
