I took a quick look at the crash stacks mentioned in c191-c193. Since we don't
have a debug kernel for "4.15.0-15-generic #16+bug166588" I just looked
at the stacks. From that it seems reasonable to draw the conclusion that these
Grr... autocorrect on OSX while I wait for Ubuntu to work again (finish
upgrading). That should have said "leaving me with a nearly unbootable
system."

I have resolved the issue of dnsmasq not starting. The cause was that
virbr0 was listed in /etc/network/interface. Removing it solved the
problem. This was my error since I had put it there while trying to
configure virbr0 without dnsmasq (which I have now done sucessfully).

Yes it does have hybrid graphics. I also use an external GPU. This
occurs with or without the EGPU plugged in.
However, it may be that there was a problem in that specific version of
SDDM in that particular daily build. Somehow, someway installing the
Ubuntu Gnome desktop system and gdm2 fixed
I reproduced the issue with the clone attached.

Comparing your nova-compute logs and the strace unlink details, the
timestamps do seem to point to unlink causing the delay. Pasting the

I'm not certain exactly which machine I used to create the startup disk
which caused me trouble (I have a few *buntu machines around running
various daily builds, plus an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS one also). It's likely
that the program causing problems was the one on the 14.04 machine, as
