Yeah, this doesn't sound right. Bionic has 7.2.1-1, while the fix has
been applied to 7.2.2-1. The verification mentioned on comment #7 was
against a ppa.
We can't ask IBM to properly verify it on bionic until we get this

I knew this seemed somewhat known to me, it turns out I tried to work on it
once already.
But due to translations this would be a (unreasonably) huge Delta for any
Distributions to carry.
Just to say instead of:

In fact it is common enough, just most of the other cases are pre-
installed so people never recognize it. But if you start with a minimal
image you'll hit a few.

virgl was more of a secondary point, as that requires guest support that
doesn't even really exist in most cases. The QXL default does seem
broken though. At least in Ubuntu 16.04 guests that leads to a broken
display if you change the resolution. I guess that's a bug in the 16.04
xserver QXL drive

Actually, not an upgrade but a downgrade seems to have solved my problem.
I have replaced the firmware file
/lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-6.bin with
firmware-6.bin_WLAN.RM.4.4.1-00065-QCARMSWP-1
(which is what Ubuntu 17.10 might have had)
and I have not had a single outage after a wh
