But IMHO the backport has as SRU to Xenial has quite some regression risk and
actually low gain.
Let me outline why I think so:

With nemo-desktop on open gedit or gnome-system-log and it will be
impossible to see any text whatsoever because the area is filled with
whatever the background was and continious rerenders.
I think this affect apps using a certain feature in gnome libraries so
only gnome app

I'm affected by this or a similar bug too. Interestingly the keyboard does work
in BIOS and GRUB. To my suprise a USB Keyboard from my neighbor worked.
