TL;DR -- today using apt-get autoremove deleted the offensive lines in
/var/lib/apt/extended_states and restored the list in software-updater
-- though I doubt that will work every time.

I have tried to get access to an arm64 test machine for debugging this
already some days ago but up to know did not get a working setup.

Intermittently while browsing old and new sites, I run into a Server Not
Found, "Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.", "We can’t connect
