Additional Information: system-rescue-cd was able to boot in EFI mode. Other ubuntu/debian based usb sticks either could not be enumerated; or failed with the previously mentioned error. Once I was able to boot up into EFI mode it was a simple fix thanks to Panu. An observation: The Secure Boot
