Workaround doesn't work in Kmail v5.7.3 because both password and connection
settings (to set to "plain") are disabled.
Even for a freshly created IMAP connection.
Something in KDE is disabling these because the email is @gmail ?

After some more testing, the computer comes back to life after around 1
minute. The login screen seems fine but after login, the computer is
unusable. No application can be started, the wifi do not work and pretty
much everything do not work. What can I do to help ?

Ubuntu Eoan doesn't ship phpmyadmin, perhaps you got it from another
place, and it had a dependency on mariadb instead of mysql? Perhaps you
installed phpmyadmin from Debian, which uses mariadb instead of mysql?

Hi, no I have never touched cursor/theme setting, so always default.
I turned on Wayland as requested (and also disabled x11vnc).
The result was that I just got purple splash screen and no log in window at all.
Likely I need to add addition UI packages, which may have been auto removed.
