I have not (yet) experienced the issue you are describing, or any issues
for that matter. Maybe you can remove and re-insert i2c_hid when this
happens? Hopefully a fix of the GPIO driver is not too far off and will
resolve the stability issues you are experiencing.

I'm not sure what happened here.. Were you at 6.4.2 on a focal system
trying to update your system when you hit this error? 6.4.2 is a few
versions old and as you might imagine it's not feasble to test all
upgrade paths. Perhaps a reinstall of the package would fix the issue.

Seems I spoke too soon, tested with Kernels 5.4.0-47 and -48, and with
both firmware versions, I get the same iwlwifi errors, the card resets
constantly, once or twice per minute and causes loss of connectivity and
other odd delays in the system. Not sure if driver or firmware issues.

Today I had the same exact problem.
I found out that after creating on Windows 10 with win32diskimager an usb boot
stick with Ubuntu 20.04, I had a called "writable" partition on that stick
also. That efi image file you mentioned was the only file with a different
md5sum.
After that I created on
installing network-manager-openvpn-gnome not helping on Kubuntu 20.04.
In Ubuntu 20.04 works perfect, without any installations

definition, added the wayland plug, but the application still fails to
