Update. I had zram-tools installed as well. Or at least, I have it after the
upgrade to 21.04
I removed it and zram-config, and reinstalled zram-config, and it works fine.
However, this still doesn't make much sense: if they were both installed
previously, why did it stop working?

Under 20.10, my machine of 64GB had 8 zram devices of 2GB each.
After the 21.04 upgrade, zram was still configured, but now with one 1 device
of 256MB.
dpkg-reconfigure did not fix this
purge and reinstall did not fix this.

Update: No ubuntu 21.04 still has this issue, didnt need to even install
it. As soon as I booted from USB it would tear and flicker. Once the
screen appeared for the installation, mouse movement would trigger more
tearing.

Yes, MOZ_DBUS_REMOTE and MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND are the correct variables to
run Firefox in mixed environment. That will be fixed automatically when
all FF builds uses Wayland, but we need to use that variables until
that.

Yes I know, but I don't know any easy way to downgrade to 3.5, there is
only choice between 3 and 3.6.

I've also verified the fix in 2.31-0ubuntu9.3 on Focal with repro-
lp1899800.c in a 4 core VM running on a 4 core machine.
The reproducer did hang after a half hour with unfixed glibc:
$ gcc -pthread repro-lp1899800.c
$ unbuffer ./a.out | ts | tee -a r
